In 1980, having spent a number of years focusing on drawing, Pilar Pequeño started to work with photography. All her work is interrelated and has a strong connection with nature: landscapes, greenhouses, leaves…
In 2008 she began a new project called “Nearby landscapes” 2008 – 2013. The main theme here is nature, as in all of her works, but this time it is the kind of nature that is close by, both physically and emotionally. "Nearby landscapes" is a series of photographs of natural spaces in which people live and in which they walk. Like in her very first landscapes she continues to search for the changes that light creates and the transformations the seasons bring about to rivers, streams and riverbanks.
Pilar Pequeño was awarded the ‘Medalla de oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes’ (Gold Medal of Merit for Fine Art) in 2010 by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
