ESTAMPA Madrid 2024

Our proposal for the next edition of the ESTAMPA 2024 fair consists of a solo show by Australian artist Christina Zimpel (Perth, 1961), whose works will be accompanied by a canvas by José Guerrero (Granada, 1914 - Barcelona, 1991).
The unique pictorial language of this Australian artist is bold and refreshing. Her works seem to float in an imaginary space, where she traces with her brush striking figures saturated with color, whose poses and hairstyles are crucial to the whole image. Faces, bodies or even still lifes come to life in a confident, yet minimalist style. Somehow, these large swaths of color seem charged with emotion and an unbridled desire to break the rules of figurative painting. He attributes this desire to his youth in Australia in the 1970s and the folkloric teachings of his Hungarian mother, which are reflected in the soul of these paintings.
When we first saw Zimpel's paintings, the works of this outstanding Spanish abstract painter of the second half of the 20th century came to our minds, whom we consider one of the most outstanding masters of color in Spanish painting. It occurred to us to send her an image of a black canvas from the late eighties by the Andalusian painter and, based on this work, Christina created in her Brooklyn studio the set of works for our project.
