Simon Callery publishes "Disrupting Archaeology and Art. Excavation and Contemporary Painting" together with Doug Bailey
Artist Simon Callery, together with Visual Archaeology professor Doug Bailey, presented his new book Disrupting Archaeology and Art. Excavation and Contemporary Painting on 14 May, published by Bloomsbury Publishing.
This publication emerges from a dialogue between archaeology and contemporary painting, in which both authors explore the boundaries of their disciplines through six key works that articulate their practice and thinking.
For his part, Simon Callery develops an investigation into painting and landscape rooted in his direct experience of the archaeological environment. Through his contact paintings, pit paintings and large-scale sculptural work, created in dialogue with excavations in England and Wales, his practice addresses questions of time, materiality, and the construction of the image in contemporary painting.
The book is now available via Bloomsbury Publishing: https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/disrupting-archaeology-and-art-9781350507500/
We invite you all to discover the work and to engage with this intersection between archaeology and contemporary painting.
