We inaugurate the season with Giorgio Griffa and Lourdes Castro Cerón

#OPENING

This solo exhibition dedicated to the Italian painter Giorgio Griffa (Turin, 1936) marks the culmination of a cycle of projects that began in the summer of 2024 with the presentation of his intervention #MateriaSpirituale at the Monastery of Santa María de Bujedo de Juarros in Burgos. This was followed by the major installation entitled Dionisio Due, an unpublished work created by Griffa in the 1980s, which captured all attention at the most recent edition of ARCO 2025.

On this occasion, we present throughout the gallery’s four rooms a carefully curated selection of works spanning from the early 1970s to the beginning of the current decade. Through them, the public can trace more than five decades of a rigorous and deeply poetic artistic practice, in which gesture, material, rhythm, and also silence, prevail.

Meanwhile, in #LaCriptaProjects we present our first exhibition dedicated to Lourdes Castro Cerón (Cádiz, 1977).

Through painting, she studies the behavior of nature in territories expressed through the essential. Deserted and raw landscapes, minimally manipulated, without ornamentation and seemingly empty. Her most recent project stems from a stay in Xinjiang (China), Mongolia, and Buryatia (Russia), as well as from an artistic and scientific residency aboard a three-masted brigantine sailing across the Barents Sea from Tromsø to the northern part of the island of Spitsbergen (Svalbard).

As a result, she presents a large working panel featuring records of the Arctic atmosphere, ranging from painted and found papers to lists of words describing the attributes of the territory. Through these and other references, the viewer is invited to immerse themselves in her distinctive perspective on some of the most remote places on Earth.
