COLECCIONA meetings bring together Susana Solano and Simon Callery in Santa María de Bujedo

#EVENTS

We are pleased to announce our participation in the 9th edition of COLECCIONA 2022, where we will present a dialogue between the artists Simon Callery and Susana Solano in the monastery of Santa María de Bujedo on Saturday 4 June at 12:00h.

This year's programme proposes a journey that starts at the Studiolo Collection in its dialogue at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum; reaching the Navacerrada Collection in Cantabria and the Campocerrado Foundation with its contemporary art collection in Salamanca.  The Antonio Pérez Foundation in Cuenca will be visited; to finish by discovering the work of the gallery owner Rafael Pérez Hernando in the Monastery of Santa María de Bujedo de Juarros in Burgos.

The monastery of Santa María de Bujedo de Juarros in Burgos, whose construction began in the mid-12th century, was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931. It belonged to the Cistercian order and is located at the bottom of a small valley furrowed by the Seco river, a few kilometres from the city of Burgos.

After more than 650 years of Cistercian activity in the monastery, the disentailment laws of 1935 brought with them the decline of the monastery. After years of abandonment, it was acquired in the 1970s by the Pérez Escolar family, who undertook intensive restoration work that allowed it to recover its architectural splendour. This intervention was awarded a prize in 1981 by the Europa Nostra Association.

Rafael Pérez Hernando, currently in charge of the Monastery, continues to care for this historic building, and now presents us with an intervention in its space in COLECCIONA, the result of a meeting between the artists Simon Callery and Susana Solano, whose surprising affinity will attempt to close the time in Santa Maria de Bujedo.
